“Your mental attitude will lead you into the light or hold you in darkness. It will lead you to hope or despair, to a glorious success or a miserable failure, and it is entirely within your own power to choose which it shall be.”
Orison Swett Marden
What is Humanistic Counselling?
Humanistic Counselling is a holistic therapeutic approach that honours the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. It encompasses a broad spectrum of methods, all grounded in the belief that each individual possesses an innate capacity for healing and growth.
At the heart of this approach is the therapeutic relationship: a genuine, respectful meeting of equals. Rather than positioning the counsellor as an expert who holds all the answers, Humanistic Counselling views the therapist as a skilled facilitator of self-discovery. The process is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard.
Humanistic therapy is a journey toward greater self-awareness, vitality, and wholeness. Clients are supported in exploring their inner world, often emerging from the process with a deeper understanding of who they are.
This approach rests on a central belief in human potential, the capacity for change, growth, and the unfolding of our true selves. It acknowledges that, given the right conditions, each person can move towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
As a Humanistic Therapist, I hold a deep respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every individual. I see life as a continuous process of change and evolution, and I am committed to creating a compassionate, supportive space in which personal transformation can occur.
I also bring an appreciation for the spiritual and intuitive dimensions of experience, and I remain mindful of the challenges faced by individuals and the broader world. It is my responsibility and privilege, to nurture hope and facilitate positive change in the lives of those I work with.
“You can’t depend on your judgment when your imagination is out of focus.”
Mark Twain
What is Psycho-Spiritual Psychotherapy?
Psycho-spiritual psychotherapy is a holistic approach to healing that integrates traditional psychological principles with an awareness of the spiritual dimension of human experience. Rather than being defined solely by the content of the therapy, this modality is characterised by its orientation toward the spiritual aspects of personal development and inner transformation.
At the heart of psycho-spiritual psychotherapy lies the understanding that the human psyche is composed not only of a personal ego but also of a deeper, central core often referred to as the Self or Soul. This core is considered the true centre of one’s identity, an inner presence that holds wisdom, clarity, and the potential for profound healing and growth.
Therapists working within this framework draw from a wide range of psycho-therapeutic modalities, including depth psychology, humanistic approaches, somatic practices, and mindfulness-based techniques. These tools are used to help individuals explore and process unresolved psychological material, often stemming from past experiences, with the aim of alleviating current emotional or relational difficulties.
However, what distinguishes psycho-spiritual psychotherapy is its emphasis on holding this psychological work within the broader context of the individual’s spiritual journey. This means acknowledging and honouring the personal and often sacred insights, experiences, and inner guidance that arise during the therapeutic process.
The work of psycho-spiritual psychotherapy involves two complementary movements: the journey from the personal self toward the deeper Self, and the expression of the Self through the personal self in everyday life. As such, therapy includes both psychological repair, healing past wounds, and the process of individuation, or the unfolding of one’s unique, authentic path.
Ultimately, this approach supports individuals in living with greater awareness, compassion, and alignment with their deepest truth.
